Why I’m Raving About How to Meet A Girl (At The End Of The World)

Spread the love

If you have not read or added How to Meet a Girl (at the End of the World) by Christopher Compton in your TBR, please go do it now. As soon as I finished the book, I had to take a moment to process everything before I opened my OneNote to immediately blog about its brilliancy.

But before I briefly go over what I enjoyed about it or what the synopsis of the book is, I want to talk about how I came across this book. If you are an aspiring writer, it may be a great idea to note how this book was marketed to me.

In the past years, TikTok has been gaining more traction and not just with the younger generation, but even with people who were born in the 60s. I remember how I used to roll my eyes at the prospect of even downloading the app back in 2019. However, I finally succumbed to the app in 2020 just like the other people I know in my life.

Initially, I thought the app was mostly about people posting videos of them dancing or people doing pranks (just like Vine back in the day). But I soon learned that just like any other apps, the algorithm is specific to your likes. I also find that TikTok is more aggressive than Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook. It truly caters to your interests and it makes sure that you stay engaged as long as possible.

Of course, I can discuss the dangers of social media, but as a bookworm, finding authors and aspiring writers on this platform is truly marvelous. Not only you’re able to interact with the authors but you get to enjoy their quality content that would put smiles on your faces (or get you excited about their book). And that is exactly how I came across Christopher Compton.

TikTok has catered to my bookworm needs and brought me over to BookTok where authors, aspiring writers, and bookworms like me thrive. His dedication to putting exceptional TikTok videos had me running to my Amazon Kindle so I can purchase his book: How to Meet a Girl at the End of the World. And boy, I am glad I did because it has easily become one of my favorite books (and mind you, I have consumed thousands of material in my years here on Earth).

In conclusion of this little rant, if you are an aspiring writer, it may be your best interest to start marketing on TikTok. Not only it is a free platform but the app makes sure to capture the attention of bookworms like me.

So now that I got that out of the way, let’s get started.

So what made me fall in love with How to Meet a Girl (at the End of the World):

Again, I will do my best not to spoil any of it because not only do I want you to check it out, but I also know that you will appreciate it more if you don’t know any major things that happened in it. So, without further ado, these are my review highlights:

  • Major character development not only on our Main Character but also on the side characters. Christopher Compton did a phenomenal job of getting you emotionally invested in each of them
  • Although the theme is about the end of the world, I find myself laughing at the dialogue exchanges. It is well delivered and relatable
  • It is fast-paced and a page-turner. Yes, I know that I am a speed reader but here’s the thing, his writing style will make you forget that you are reading. The words just blur in the background as your brain begins to play the scenes like a movie
  • Lastly, I wasn’t bogged down with unnecessary details of background settings or constantly reminded of how a character looks like. He makes sure to keep your attention of where it’s supposed to be without compromising the mood and atmosphere (side note: I do realize the importance of descriptions, but overly describing can be distracting)

I am impressed with his writing and as I have said before, this book had easily become one of my Top Five. It tugged at my heartstrings, and by the end of the book, I had to take a moment to gather myself again. I hope I have piqued your interest and you have added this book in your TBR list. If you are looking for books that have strong character development, then this is your guy.

If I have not convinced you to read it yet, then make sure to find him on TikTok and watch his content. Also, if you are an aspiring writer (this works for artists too), it may be a great idea to start marketing on this free platform to grab the attention of bookworms like me.

Anyway, enjoy and happy reading!
